Carla Simone Pavanelli
Graduated in Biological Sciences (1987) with specialization (1990) from the State University of Maringa (UEM); master’s from the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (UFRJ) (1994); doctorate from Federal University of São Carlos (UFSCar) (1999); and postdoctoral position at the Smithsonian Institution (SI) (2006). Has been a biologist at UEM and curator of the Nupélia Ichthyological Collection for over 25 years. Has expertise in zoology with an emphasis in taxonomy, systematics and conservation of Neotropical freshwater fish. Associated with the graduate programs of Ecology of Continental Aquatic Environments (UEM), Comparative Biology (UEM) and Aquaculture and Sustainable Development (UFPR), where she has advised master’s and doctoral students, as well as undergraduates. She is leader of the UEM Systematics of Neotropical Fish Research Group, and has served as reviewer of several national and international journals. She is currently Editor-in-Chief of the journal Neotropical Ichthyology of the Brazilian Society of Ichthyology, 2nd Treasurer of the Brazilian Society of Zoology and member of the life sciences area of the SciELO Brazil Advisory Committee. She is the Continental Actinopterygii Taxon Coordinator in the Brazilian threatened species assessment process and a member of the Technical Advisory Group (GAT) of the Baixo Iguaçu National Action Plan.
